What Darwin didn’t know was, as special as the wildlife is on the Galapagos, it is 100x more incredible below. The convergence of the cold Humboldt currents, the warm Panama currents & the deep sea Cromwell currents brings together an incredible array of marine life.

Ecuador 2012 004 1024x682 The Origins of Species

Trip started with a Ecuadorian road trip…Lucked out in finding Santa Marianita, an amazing coast town with GREAT kite surfing!

Ecuador 2012 006 1024x682 The Origins of Species

Chilly waters but isn’t crowded like the Philippines or Hawaii. And if you’re lucky, there’s an occasional whale that’ll swim by.

Ecuador 2012 009 1024x682 The Origins of Species

I prefer this over surfing…

Ecuador 2012 026 1024x682 The Origins of Species

An ancient calendar.

Ecuador 2012 029 682x1024 The Origins of Species

You know it’s not the REAL Equator line, when one has no problems walking on it.

Ecuador 2012 033 1024x682 The Origins of Species

The huge monument that supposedly sits on the equator line. They missed it by about 200 yards.

Ecuador 2012 042 1024x682 The Origins of Species

THE reason why you shouldn’t pee in the amazon…

Ecuador 2012 043 1024x682 The Origins of Species

A real shrunken head…about the size of a miniature Poland Spring bottle…

Ecuador 2012 044 1024x682 The Origins of Species

An ancient clock.

Ecuador 2012 050 1024x682 The Origins of Species

I don’t know how to explain this…another weird phenomenon that happens on the equator line is that you lose a lot of strength…

Ecuador 2012 052 1024x682 The Origins of Species

The bay of San Cristobal, Galapagos. Half the boats are occupied by sleeping sea lions.

Ecuador 2012 066 1024x682 The Origins of Species

The Galapagos in plentiful in weird star fish.

Ecuador 2012 067 1024x682 The Origins of Species

And green sea turtles. It’s a bad dive if you don’t spot at least 3.

Ecuador 2012 069 1024x576 The Origins of Species

Got SUPER excited when we saw our first school of eagle rays.

Ecuador 2012 078 1024x682 The Origins of Species

Endangered fur seals!

Ecuador 2012 079 1024x682 The Origins of Species

This sums up how difficult underwater photography is…I got lucky on this shot.

Ecuador 2012 081 1024x682 The Origins of Species

Look how BIG their eyes are! Incredible!

Ecuador 2012 088 1024x682 The Origins of Species

STOKED to find my first Galapagos shark!

Ecuador 2012 090 1024x682 The Origins of Species

An injured hammerhead, swimming sideways. Nature can be cruel…didn’t think he had much left in the tank.

Ecuador 2012 097 1024x682 The Origins of Species

When I was still excited to see eagle rays. By the 3rd day, you just wanted them to get out of your way.

Ecuador 2012 100 1024x682 The Origins of Species

Most hammerheads are pretty shy…NOT this guy.

Ecuador 2012 144 1024x682 The Origins of Species

Getting too close for my comfort.

Ecuador 2012 105 copy 1024x682 The Origins of Species

The silhouette of a hammer still amazes me.

Ecuador 2012 111 1024x682 The Origins of Species

Beautiful creatures…but they started getting in the way of things. This is the point where we were just getting spoiled.

Ecuador 2012 116 1024x682 The Origins of Species

Another curious shark. And no, sharks are not scary. His close cousin, the great white…different story.

Ecuador 2012 128 1024x682 The Origins of Species

My favorite image from the trip.

Ecuador 2012 141 1024x682 The Origins of Species

Ecuador 2012 182 1024x576 The Origins of Species

A shot of the pregger whale shark. I went into video mode after this shot. Figured it’s a bit more epic with me chasing her the whole time…Video is on Facebook…

Ecuador 2012 186 1024x682 The Origins of Species

Orcas! I really wished we could’ve encountered them in the ocean, but they were hunting…so…not the brightest idea…

Ecuador 2012 199 1024x682 The Origins of Species

A massive school of hammerheads. This stream of them went on for a while…

Darwin island…a very magical place for divers.

Ecuador 2012 222 1024x682 The Origins of Species

I’m all about swimming with dolphins…in the wild.

Ecuador 2012 223 1024x682 The Origins of Species

Due to the lack of human contact, the dolphins here aren’t quite as friendly. They keep their distance.

Ecuador 2012 238 1024x682 The Origins of Species

MOLA MOLA!!!! Biggest non-shark fish in the oceans. Record was 5,000+ lbs.

Ecuador 2012 285 1024x682 The Origins of Species

Disturbing the peace.

Ecuador 2012 288 682x1024 The Origins of Species
